The NHL is one of the most popular sports leagues in North America, but as most of us cheer on our favorite teams we rarely think of the financial side of things. While the NHL is viewed as successful it doesn’t generate all the revenue of the the NFL or the NBA.
There are still hundreds of millions of dollars on the line and there is a big gap between the most valuable teams and the least. Teams with their own stadiums tend to generate the most revenue. Team owners make money from more than just ticket sales, there is also merchandise and concessions.
Any professional sport is big business and hockey is no exception, the next time you’re cheering on you favorite team take a moment to appreciate the money involved.
